Mirage - Captain Russ

 

Russ Keys, Captain, is from Ohio, and began his love for boating at age 9, on the Great Lakes, aboard a family-owned cabin cruiser. In 1980, after spending 4 years running Search & Rescue boats for the US Coast Guard, Russ transitioned to Yachting. After 12 years as mate, deckhand, and engineer, Russ earned his 1600-ton Master’s license in 1992, and took command of the famous yacht “Time” the following year. Russ has been yachting north of the Arctic Circle, south of the Antarctic Circle, and many places in between. Russ took command of the “Mirage” in Acapulco, Mexico, in 2007.

 

Andreas Zeiter, Chief Engineer, has been with the “Mirage” since 2005, and has to his credit, the full, 4-year, MTU college education. The school covers everything from theory, to modern day practical applications.

Andreas was born in Siberia, Russia, but moved to Germany with his family, and finished his extensive engineering education in Friedrichshafen. Andreas speaks fluent Russian, German, and English. Andreas is married with two children, and now calls Florida his home.

Angus Cowie, Chief Mate, hails from Scotland, and has been a yachting professional for over 10 years. Angus has his “Commercially Endorsed” Yachtmaster’s License, and he has served on some very well known yachts, including Calixe, Lady Lola, Kermit and Radiant.

Angus is now adding ‘high-speed, water-jet propulsion’ to his resume. Angus has spent years cruising all over the Mediterranean, and knows all the best ports-of-call. Angus enjoys skiing, diving, and is an excellent cook.

 

Sarah Barber, Chief Stewardess, is originally from Sydney, Australia, and has travelled extensively. Sarah is a certified Pilates and Aerobics Instructor, and enjoys running, music, cycling, swimming and reading.

In addition to being a keen surfer, Sarah competed nationally in swimming and ‘Surf Life Saving’ competitions back in Australia. Sarah owns dance studios back home, and adds a lively atmosphere to the Mirage.

Johnny Cason, Deckhand, comes from South Africa, where he also studied agriculture, and afterwards obtained his certificates in “Yacht Hand”, “Small Power Boat & RIB Master”, and all of his STCW-95 training.

Johnny speaks four languages, and enjoys woodworking, rugby, cricket and tennis, in his time off. Johnny always has a smile on his face, and keeps the crew going with his positive energy.
